The International Solidarity Movement (ISM) is a Palestinian-led movement committed to resisting the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land using non-violent, direct-action methods and principles. ISM aims to strengthen Palestinian civil resistence by bringing international volunteers to take part in Palestinian actions.
The presence of these internationals acts as a deters violent responses from an army which has little respect for Palestinian life, draws Israeli and international media attention and breaks the isolation of Palestinian communities. For more on the ISM, click here .
Volunteers from Bristol have been taking part in ISM's campaigns since its inception. ISM Bristol is a group of activists volunteering ourselves and working to support ISMers before, during and after their time in Palestine.
Back in Bristol, we arrange fundraising and pre-travel training; help in dealing with the media whilst away; and support in 're-adjusting' to life in the UK on return.
We also send speakers to community groups, student groups and schools (anyone who will listen!) in order to raise awareness of the oppression of the Palestinian people and the opportunities to support them in their struggle for freedom.
Please get in touch if you would like more information, particularly if you would like to arrange an ISM speaker or are interested in getting involved!
